Rodbaston Hall are experts when it comes to making wedding dreams come true, but when Lawrence Hollins approached them to host his big day as part of TV series ‘Don’t tell the Bride’ his requests were a little out of the ordinary!
“It was April 2nd when a call came through from Lawrence, so I initially wondered whether it was a belated April Fool.” says Angela Collier, Events Coordinator at Rodbaston Hall. “It’s not every day that we get a request to host a wedding just two weeks before the big day! It soon became apparent though that Lawrence was serious, so of course, having got over the initial shock, we were more than happy to help.”
As Lawrence arranged to visit Rodbaston Hall to look at the venue and discuss his plans, the out-of-the-ordinary requests continued…
Having first told his bride-to-be Kloe Salt that he loved her during a trip to a funfair, Lawrence decided that for their big day instead of the more traditional and elegant day it should infact be more of a roller coaster ride.
Cue the arrival of dodgems, a big wheel, hoopla and candy floss to the 180 hectare rural estate.
“I think Lawrence’s initial visit was actually more nerve-wracking for him than it was for us.” adds Angela. “We were extremely confident that we’d be able to help transform his vision into a fairground reality. Despite being one of the more unusual requests we’ve received, it was fantastic to play a part in creating such a unique wedding. We know how stressful planning a wedding can be and are always on-hand to support our brides and grooms-to-be and make sure their big day goes without a hitch and this was certainly no exception.”
As we’ve come to expect from this TV favourite, the bride-to-be’s discerning tastes means that Lawrence’s wedding plans weren’t quite what she had in mind for her big day. Kloe, who upon driving towards the hall thinks her groom has excelled himself, soon realises that all is not as it seems…
“While the day before the wedding was a little chaotic, everything worked out beautifully.” says Angela. “The sun was shining and Kloe was a picture perfect bride. I think once the surprise had worn off (and Lawrence realised he wouldn’t have a runaway bride), the day couldn’t have gone better. While there can be no argument that his plans were certainly a little different to the norm, Lawrence chose his theme as a result of a very precious memory that he and Kloe shared. It was a pleasure to play a part in seeing another happy couple tie the knot here at Rodbaston Hall and we wish them every happiness for their future together.”
Needless to say, the episode, delivered a host of twists and turns, highs and lows…
